Oil Painting Weekend February 22-24, 2013

If you've always wanted to learn how to paint, this is the weekend event for you!

Learn the wet-on-wet method of oil painting by creating your very own 16x20 landscape painting. Our instructor, Bonita Mallory, will demonstrate her talents Friday night then instruct the class on
Saturday and Sunday.

Fees are: $65 for one class & Friday night program
or
$120 for two classes & the Friday night program.

There is a maximum of 20 participants per class, so sign-up early.

Winter Rook Tournament January 11-12, 2013

Date: January 11 - 12 Time: 7PM Fri.—Sat. night
Round-robin tournament begins Friday night & runs through Saturday evening. House rules will apply. Registration fee is $25/team & a new deck of rook cards. Register at least one week prior to the event to receive a $5 discount. Prizes will be given to the top 3 teams. Lodging discount available.

Santa Visits the Park on December 1, 2012

American Robins feasting on Blackgum's fruit

The Blackgum trees on the lodge road are attracting American Robins. I saw ten or more Robins feasting on the blue drupes. The trees are covered in fruit. The fruit is not palatable to humans, but the birds seem to love them.

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park would like to invite everyone to come out and help us Salute our Veteran’s! This Veterans Day join us to hear veterans tell their stories of service to our country. This program is free for all to attend. We invite veterans to come and tell their stories and bring their memorabilia. Mike Freeland, a World War II veteran will be on hand to begin the story telling on Saturday and host the event.

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park’s Halloween Campout is the place to have a spooky good time this fall. The fun begins Friday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. with spooky storytelling. On Saturday, Oct. 27, the day will begin with wagon rides at 10 a.m. followed by arts and crafts at 1 p.m., cemetery scavenger hunt at 3 p.m., trick-or-treating 4-7 p.m., a pumpkin-carving contest at 5 p.m., campsite decorating contest at 5 p.m. and a costume contest at 6 p.m. For information, call 1-800-325-1711.

October 19-21, 2012 Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park held Fall Photography Weekend. The above photograph is the "Best in Show." It was taken by Jim Pearson of Madisonville, Kentucky. The weekend hosted 47 participants in three different divisions (point & shoot, intermediate, and masters).

Run Through the Forest 5K Run/Fun Walk Results

On September 22, 2012 Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park hosted the Run through the Forest 5K run/fun walk. We had 128 registered participants. It was a beautiful day to be at the park. The race was the second leg of the Western Kentucky State Parks Race Series. The next race in the series is at Lake Barkley on October 27, 2012.

Runner on the Lake Trail at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park

Although you won't be able to see this view during the park's Run through the Forest 5k race/fun walk because it will take place on paved roads within the park. You could practice for the event on the lake trail.

If Scrapbooking is more your style. We've got the weekend for you September 28-30, 2012. There are approximately 7 spots still available for our upcoming scrapbooking weekend. Enjoy a spacious table to work all weekend, plus a chance to win scrapbook-related prizes from various vendors. There will also be various consultants on hand to help participants with their own scrapbooking. As well as make-n-takes on Saturday.
