This years Earth Day was rainy and storming at Lake Barkley, but earlier in the week a lot of great spring sounds and sightings. Parulas and Prothonotarys have returned and can be heard singing throughout the park. Blue-winged Warblers, Worm-eating warblers, and Summer Tanagers were heard on the Blue Spring Trail near cottage loop and both Oriole Species (Baltimore and Orchard) and Hummingbirds were seen on the shoreline stroll near the lodge. A few dogwoods continue to bloom as well as Fire Pink, Trilliums, and False Garlic. In the tree canopy young squirrels leaving the nest for the first time are scurrying among the tree branches, and five Canada Goose goslings were spotted near the marina.
