FRANKFORT, KY - Kentucky State Parks will host the 2012 Unbridled Adventure Race Series, fouruser posted image adventure races that will test participants physical and mental skills for beginners and advanced racers.

This series is being conducted at Kentucky State Parks in partnership with the Kentucky Office of Adventure Tourism and Flying Squirrel Adventures.

Each race will include mountain biking on trail and road, trekking on and off trail, paddling on flat or slow moving water, and navigation with topo map and compass. A given race may also include a short life-jacket-assisted swim or other discipline for which no special expertise is required.

Races are open to individuals or teams of two, three or four people. All races are United States Adventure Racing Association sanctioned and qualify for points in the USARA national standings. Additionally, Unbridled Adventure is a series that qualifies for additional points under the new USARA guidelines.

June 9, 2012: General Butler State Resort Park, four-hour race

August 11, 2012: Barren River State Resort Park near Glasgow, six-hour race

September 15, 2012: Carter Caves State Resort Park, Olive Hill, KY, eight-hour race

November 3, 2012: Natural Bridge State Resort Park at Slade, KY, twelve-hour race (This race is called the Fig X and is not recommended for inexperienced racers)

user posted image CARROLLTON, KY- General Butler State Resort Park will host its first Mudathalon- a 3 mile, 40-obstacle course with a muddy terrain from start to finish on Saturday June 2, 2012.

Participants can take part in Mudathalon as an individual or member of a team. Waves of 100 will start at 8a.m. Participants will face obstacles such as the Mud Slide, Cargo Net Climb, Heaping hay Bales, 40-foot Tunnel of Terror and other fantastic water obstacles. Mudathalon guarrantees you will be dripping in mud from head to toe. General Butler State Resort Park offers a great area for a post-race rinse.

The course is designed for all ability levels and prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women. The top three teams will also be awarded and there is a costume contest.

The registration fee is $75 which includes parking, post-race cookout, medal, T-Shirt, bandana and much more. Participants must be at least 14 years old and those under 18 must have a parent or guardians permission. Charity Team participants can give $10 back to the charity of their choice. Members of the military and eligible for a $5 discount.
