Resident Wildlife
Hiking along the trails of the park, I was surprised to see some of our resident wildlife up close. They were nice enough to stay put and let me photograph them.

As we started the trail, of course we disturbed foraging squirrels throughout the trail who always scurried away and up a tree. Farther along the trail the first animal to spot was a whip-poor-whil. I did not spot him until he flew up from his hiding spot right next to the trail. The whip-poor-will is very good at hiding because he is so well camoflauged. After he flew off he landed on a tree limb hanging over the trail where I was able to take the photo. To learn more about a whip-poor-whil, visit one of the webistes listed under Links

The other photo is one of the many white-tailed deer we have on the park. Again, I didn't see these two until they began moving up the hill. Can you spot the fawn in the picture?user posted image

Other animals you might see are turkey, groundhogs, opossums, skunks, coytote, bobcats, and a wide variety of birds.
