For many years we’ve admired a pair of bald eagles and their chicks nesting in the cypress slough north of the park. Late last November, their nesting and hunting grounds were auctioned and will soon pass hands again to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Their nest and some of the wetlands around it will likely be turned over to the Department of Parks and absorbed into John James Audubon State Park. Naturally we’re excited about the prospect of acquiring such amazing habitat. Read More

Imagine living in a cluster of tree branches reaching over seven stories into the air. Each branch is carefully woven into a massive structure with the approximate size and weight of an economy car. Then imagine looking at a flurry of human activity in the distance putting up auction signs for the land your home sits on. The land that you’ve raised chicks on for years. At least three eagle nests have sat in trees on that land within the last 6 years. Read More
